Consultation
Consultation may focus on the needs of an individual child or group, or extend to whole-school or service-level work. It can be a standalone intervention or lead to further work such as assessment, direct therapeutic input, or staff training.
I have a particular interest in supporting education settings to embed system-wide support frameworks, as well as consulting with adult learning disability services to enhance quality of life, promote autonomy, and reduce restrictive practices.
Consultation typically involves collaborative problem-solving and reflective dialogue with those supporting the individual—such as school staff, family members, or service teams. For example, a consultation might focus on understanding the underlying factors contributing to a child’s behaviour in school and exploring strategies to support regulation, engagement, and wellbeing. Unlike direct assessment, which involves structured interaction with the child and formal data collection, consultation does not require the child to be present and instead draws on the insights and experiences of those around them. It can be a powerful standalone intervention, helping teams to reframe challenges, identify priorities, and implement meaningful support without the need for formal testing.
Assessment and Intervention
Assessment is centred on developing a rich, contextual understanding of the focal person’s unique strengths, needs, and experiences. This process is collaborative, drawing on multiple sources of information to inform meaningful support.
Depending on the referral question, assessment may involve:
· Conversations with those closely involved in the person's care and education (e.g. family members, staff teams)
· Direct engagement with the focal person themselves.
· Structured observations and targeted data collection
· Direct assessment (e.g. cognitive functioning, etc)
Training and Professional Development
I design and deliver bespoke training packages for professionals working with children and young people with additional needs. Topics include:
· Psychological foundations of cognitive, social, and emotional development
· Understanding and supporting behaviour in ways that enhance quality of life and promote positive educational outcomes
· Strengthening reflective practice and fostering resilient, values-led teams
Training can be tailored to suit the needs of individual staff teams, whole schools, or organisations.
I offer clinical supervision to professionals working in psychology and related roles, including those in education, social care, and therapeutic services. My supervision approach is reflective, supportive, and grounded in evidence-based practice. It provides a safe space for practitioners to explore complex casework, develop clinical thinking, and maintain professional resilience. Supervision can be offered on an individual or group basis and is tailored to the developmental stage and context of the supervisee.
